School Nurse

Criteria for remaining home or leaving school:

At Adams Traditional Academy, good attendance is always encouraged, however, if a child is ill they should remain home from school.

Children can generally return to school after they have been fever/symptom free, without medication, for 24 hours. If required, a child should be on antibiotics for a full 24 hours before returning to school. Some illnesses may require a doctor’s release before student may return to school.

Should a child be at school and exhibit any of the following symptoms it will be required that they be sent home.
  • Fever 100.0 or higher
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting
  • Flu symptoms (aching with fever)
  • Potentially communicable rash
  • Multiple cold symptoms (runny nose, watering eyes, sore throat, persistant cough)
  • “Pink” eye (with tearing or drainage)
  • Sore throat (with swelling and/or white spots)
  • Colored discharge from nose
  • Other symptoms that may interfere with students ability to remain in class

If a student experiences an extraordinary injury (head injury, face injury, possible fracture, etc.) the parents will be contacted and a request may be made that the student be picked up from school. A suggestion may be made that a child be taken to the doctor for further evaluation.

We CANNOT DIAGNOSE children, but we can tell you what we observe and determine if the child is well enough to remain in school. Parents will be contacted for students who are too ill to remain at school and a request made that the student be picked up.
